Dr. C. H. Gonzalez, PhD:
Becoming Teacherly
My Story
Becoming Teacherly is a phrase I discovered one day while attempting to describe what was happening in my life through my research. I hope this is something that is happening in all of our lives, as educators. Whether you're a grad student or a veteran teacher, I believe in one way or another, we are all becoming teacherly.
My students give me life. As they grow, I grow. They prove to me everyday that “there are neither utter ignoramuses nor perfect sages; there are only people who are attempting together, to learn more than they know” (Friere, 1970, p. 90). I love seeing them change and adapt and compose. They are how I become more teacherly each day.
Becoming Teacherly is a place for me to share who I am beyond my cover letter and resume. While those documents are part of who I am, they also do not clearly describe me to anyone who reads them.
If you want to know who I am, watch my teachers.
